Several years ago, mainland students studying in Hong Kong were referred to as "studying abroad," and there was no idea of "studying in Hong Kong," so many people believe that studying in Hong Kong is not nearly the same as studying abroad.

But, this is merely our subjective opinion based on the Ministry of Education's official certification.

Mainland graduates from Hong Kong's eight universities plus the Metropolis, Shue Yan, and the Academy for Performing Arts can all be considered international students.

They can enjoy favorable policies for overseas students, such as settling in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, international student subsidies, tax-free automobile purchase eligibility, and so on, as long as they complete specified outbound study time requirements.

Aside from the two points of official jurisprudence mentioned above, a student studying on the mainland and a student studying in Hong Kong will not be treated equally in terms of actual study and work.

To begin with, because the language of instruction in Hong Kong schools is pure English, the content of teaching is more international, the teaching staff has a higher proportion of overseas prestigious schools, and the education and teaching mode in Hong Kong is different from that on the mainland, there is every reason to consider studying in Hong Kong as an act of study abroad from this perspective.

Second, when looking for a job, graduates from Hong Kong and mainland universities will not be regarded by enterprises as fresh graduates with the same learning background, and the fact that the top three in Hong Kong have more advantages in going to foreign enterprises and the mainland 985 have more advantages in going to state-owned enterprises can also cause some problems.

Therefore, the fervor of studying in Hong Kong cannot be totally attributable to agent conjecture.

It is an undeniable reality that an increasing number of students are choosing to study in Hong Kong as a "shortcut" due to the benefits of international student status, time savings, lower prices, and high recognition for employment in China.

The job of agents in this process is just to direct and bundle the role; the true need and decision are the students themselves.

To take a step back, given that "studying in Hong Kong" is promoted by the government, recognized by businesses, and not rejected by students, how can the enthusiastic public believe that people are not even deserving of being at the bottom of the discriminating chain?

Furthermore, the application criterion for Hong Kong institutions is no longer so low, and kids with a 985 background may not even be able to gain an offer from the top five schools, so I'm not sure where individuals who don't consider Hong Kong as a location to study get their confidence and illusion...

In fact, many of the students I've worked with have gotten better career possibilities after studying in Hong Kong, and I myself have benefited much from graduating from Hong Kong Chinese, such as relocating in Shanghai, joining the Big 4, creating my own business, and so on.

If I had gone directly to work as a double non-graduate, or barely got a double non-graduate, I would have spent years working in small companies before gaining enough experience to have a chance that others had from the start.

Hence, from a practical standpoint, I don't see anything wrong with considering studying in Hong Kong to be studying abroad. The year I spent studying and living in Hong Kong gave me a distinct sense from the mainland, which anyone who has spent time there would understand.

On the other hand, do Hong Kong and Macau high school students take the same university admission examinations or postgraduate exams as their mainland counterparts?

02. Of course, while determining whether studying in Hong Kong is deemed studying abroad, we must compare it not just to mainland students, but also to mainland students who travel outside to study in areas such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia.

From this vantage point, the social environment and school environment in Hong Kong are not identical to those in Europe and America.

The teaching style and education system of Hong Kong schools 香港大學排名are only on the European and American side, but they still have some characteristics of Asian colleges and universities, and a significant proportion of teachers and students come from Asian and mainland backgrounds, so the study abroad experience is not as good as in Europe and America.

Many people believe that studying in Hong Kong is not the same as studying overseas, but the fundamental issue is the study experience - Hong Kong is near to the mainland, and while it is more open than the mainland, it is not a totally Western-style living environment and learning environment.

Furthermore, there are two critical points.

1) Because there are few schools in Hong Kong and the popularity of study abroad has only grown in recent years, it is in no way comparable to the UK and the US, two regions where study abroad has been flourishing for decades and where the system and branding of study abroad are already quite strong.

2) When compared to study abroad nations such as Australia, Canada, and even Ireland, New Zealand, and Singapore, Hong Kong's schools can compete, and the quality of teaching and international popularity are not far behind, but the goal of study abroad will be slightly different.

Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Singapore are all among the few countries with reasonably good school rankings, and many will contemplate local work or immigration while brushing up on their skills.

Because competition in Hong Kong is fierce and the industrial system is not very sound (the service industry is biased towards finance, tourism, and retail, and teachers and public positions are essentially open only to locals), most mainland students study in Hong Kong to brush up on their qualifications.

All of these elements combine to make it unlikely that Hong Kong students will have a strong sense that they are studying in Hong Kong.
